Activities

It simply isn't possible to be bored in Mufindi! The wonderfully warm and welcoming hosts will enrol you from the start in horse-riding, fishing, tennis, croquet, cycling and much much more.

Horse Riding

We have up to 15 horses stabled at our farm, roaming freely around the valley during the day. For riding, we have good quality and plentiful tack, and renew our helmets and padding regularly. Our guides are hugely experienced with an infectious charm, and will take you, depending on your riding experience, on any number of different trails through the mountains and valleys. Complete novices are very welcome!

Fly Fishing

We are establishing fishing in our lakes through a hatchery that aims to maintain a stock of good-sized healthy rainbow trout. Current stocks rise and fall with the seasons and temperatures, so fly-fishing is hit or miss. But isn’t that as it should be?! A trip to the hatchery is an interesting behind-the-scenes insight. We have good quality kit for both novices and experienced fishermen.

Birding

There is a wealth of bird life on and around the farm. We are lucky to have a bird list specific to the environs of the estate.

Cultural Visits

A highlight for many is a visit to the many projects being undertaken in the nearby villages, specifically in education, health and community welfare. The NGO ‘Foxes Community and Wildlife Trust’ is based here and the extent and impact of the work they do is evident from a first visit to the Children’s Village through to a more extensive tour to the schools and hospitals benefitting from the charity.

Other Activities

Kayaking - There are a number of lakes throughout the area, with a few of them perfect for kayaking. We have four kayaks in total, as well as plenty of lifejackets. The waters are clear, still, and picture perfect. One of the most relaxing activities in Mufindi.

Lawn Sports

At Mufindi we are very proud of our immaculate lawns, and make sure to make the most of them. We have a full-sized tennis court commanding some special views, a partially sheltered outdoor badminton court, a bowls green and a ‘secret garden’ for ‘aggressive, Foxes’-rules’ croquet; no quarter asked for nor given. In addition, there is an ambitious 3-hole golf course which takes you across the estate, and some grueling obstacles (horses, cattle, fly-fishermen).

The Farm

Mufindi is a working farm, and depending on the time of year, it is possible to see calves, piglets, foals and lambs. Our younger guests are encouraged to help feed the lambs and play with the puppies.

Nestled in the valley, clinging to a running brook, is the vegetable garden which supplies not just us at Mufindi, but also our safari camps and island lodge. An evening stroll through cabbages, onions, lettuces and strawberries, as well as the unusual mountain paw-paw is highly recommended.
